Subject Description | The objective of this unit is to develop an appreciation of the scope of disasters and failures and an understanding of the ways in which they can be mitigated. Topics covered include; natural disasters including fire, flood, drought, cyclones, landslides. Engineering failures including structural, dam failure, subsidence. Disaster mitigation and emergency and recovery. Insurance aspects. |
Assessment | One three-hour written examination (50%); two written assignments, maximum 3000 words each (50%) |
