None for students gaining entry to the Engineering or Science Faculties. However, 411-102 CPA1 is recommended. This unit is also available for Community Access Programmes

Subject Description

Introduction to the development of simple chemical processes based on limited information available. Emphasis is also placed on the presentation of the process details using computer packages. A number of assignments are given to the students so that they learn to: develop a simple process flow sheet; present the flow sheet on PC using CorelDRAW; give a verbal description of the process using a word processor; perform material balance on the flow sheet using a spread sheet package; perform simple cost analysis on the process; present the results of analysis using charts and graphs; present the design of simple pieces of equipment conforming to standard mechanical drawing rules using a graphical package.

Assessment

This unit is continuously assessed via about 7 assignments
