Subject Description

The subject will examine the theoretical and practical application of the five basic functions of Human Resource Management: planning and forecasting human resource requirements; recruitment and selection; appraisal, evaluation and employee motivation; designing and implementing employee training and development programmes; improving quality of life and productivity programmes, and improving the physical work environment; and managing effective working relationships. The relationships between these functions and strategic human resource management are addressed, as well as how these can be incorporated into business strategies.

Assessment

One 3-hour end-of-semester examination (60%); written assignments and seminar presentations together not exceeding 3000 words (40%).
