 316-475 Economics Research Essay

Subject Description

The research essay consists of no more than 10,000 words, inclusive of bibliography, footnotes, tables and charts, and appendices. The topic must be approved by the Coordinator of the essay program by the end of the fifth week of the first semester. Students will give a brief description of their essay near the end of the first semester. Students will present a short seminar to report the findings of their research in the middle of the second semester. A number of seminars will be held at the beginning of each semester to discuss various aspects of the program including bibliographic and other resources available to students. The essay itself is unsupervised. Several staff are appointed to deal with specific queries which arise in the course of the research. Three copies of the essay are to be submitted to the Department Office on or before Monday in the last week of the second semester.

Assessment

The essay itself is examined. It is to be submitted by the end of the second semester.
