Subject Description | An introduction to: compound interest functions and operations; valuation of annuities, bonds and loans; demography, and factors affecting population growth and size; construction and use of the life table; applications of these in life insurance; types of insurance products; the role of the actuary; the significance of financial institutions utilising actuarial management. |
Assessment | A 3-hour end-of-semester examination (80%); a 1-hour mid semester test (10%); and a 1200 word essay (10%). Assignments during the semester will form an integral part of the course, but are not included in the formal assessment. |
