Subject Description

This subject will cover disease of the 'life support' systems. It will consider:

  • the clinical signs associated with disturbance of the structure and function of the cardiovascular, respiratory and urinary systems, and of the haemopoietic system;
  • the pathology and pathophysiology of such diseases;
  • the uses and limitations of ancillary procedures such as electrocardiography, radiology, ultrasonography, clinical pathology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, serology and pathology of biopsy specimens, in diagnosis, prognosis and management;
  • the medical and surgical principles for patient management.

Assessment

A 3-hour written examination at the end of the first clinical year.
