Subject Description

Disorders of the oral cavity, including the teeth; salivary glands; esophagus; forestomachs; stomach; intestines; peritoneum; liver; pancreas and perineum are considered from a variety of aspects including causes, clinical manifestations, morphologic changes at the macroscopic and microscopic level in affected tissues, and principles of patient management in terms of prognosis and indications for therapy. Appropriate roles for ancillary investigations and techniques such as ultrasonography, radiography, clinical pathology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, serology and biopsy pathology are also discussed. Diagnosis and management of hernias in major domestic species and of equine colic are described.

Assessment

A 3-hour written examination at the end of the first clinical year.
