Subject Description

Principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics; mechanisms of activity for drugs acting at autonomic synapses; analgesics and anaesthetic agents; cardiovascular pharmacology; autacoids and anti-autacoids; drugs affecting fluid and electrolyte balance; drugs affecting the gastrointestinal tract; antimicrobial agents; anabolic agents; anti-histamines and anti-inflammatory agents. Toxicology: general principles and toxicology of agricultural, industrial, plant and animal toxins of importance in veterinary science.

Assessment

A 2-hour written examination at mid-year and a 1-hour practical assessment as scheduled in class time. A 3-hour written examination and a 1-hour practical examination at the end of the year.
