Subject Description

The object of this unit is to develop in students a familiarity with a number of approaches to experimental design, analysis of experimental data, and data exploration so students become capable of designing efficient experiments and of performing analyses common in forestry research, be able to distinguish between alternative statistical approaches, and to apply appropriate analyses for different experimental designs. The subject includes: an introduction to matrix algebra; multiple regression; ANOVA and ANCOVA; experimental design; standard classification and ordination methods used in ecology, systematics and GIS.

Assessment

One 2-hour written examination at the end of the semester and practical assignments throughout the semester.
