Subject Description

On completion of this portion of the subject students should: be familiar with the basic methods of timber harvesting; be competent in the preparation of simple forest management and harvesting plans; understand the role and basic methods for management information systems in decision making; understand the requirements of loggers for successful completion of logging with minimal environmental disturbance given the task to be done. Content includes:- Types, problems, and productivity of forest harvesting systems. Planning of harvesting procedures. Cash flow planning for forest harvesting. Different systems of labour administration. Preparation of logging plans. Product measurement and control of flow of products and money. Avoidance of fraudulent practice. Meeting Code of Forest Practice requirements.

Assessment

One 2-hour written examination at the end of the semester. Practical work as directed.
