Subject Description

This subject explores the relationship between law and social work to develop students' understanding of the major legal structures and organisations that impinge on social work practice. It includes material on giving evidence to tribunals and courts or law; legal and social elements in social assessment and decision making; the Australian legal system, protection of human rights in Australia; the role of the state in income maintenance; introduction to family law; state intervention in the family; the ethics of practice; criminal law and domestic violence.

Assessment

Written assignments of up to 5000 words or equivalent.
