Subject Description

An overview of the political, social and historical forces which shape law enforcement organisations and policies. Origins; functions and structures; contemporary challenges and dilemmas: crime control; community policing; police and politics; order maintenance; police culture and malpractice; accountability; organisational change; recruitment, selection and training; law enforcement beyond the state.

Assessment

Up to 5000 words of written work. An examination of up to two hours may be substituted for part of the written work.
