It is recommended that students whose field of study is psychology, history, philosophy or a subject with a similarly detailed vocabulary, enrol in the year long version of this subject, 183-308. This is to ensure that there is sufficient time available to become acquainted with the wealth of material. When in doubt, discuss the matter with the course coordinator.

Supervised self-instruction. (Either double-semester 183-308 or single semester, 183-312, 1 or 2.)

Subject Description

Programmed instruction under individual guidance from the tutor, then translation of texts from students' fields of study. To provide basic skills in reading German. On completion of the subject students should be able to read and translate into English, with the aid of a dictionary, a relatively complex authentic German text.

Assessment

Continuous assessment of homework assignments and a 3-hour examination.
