 183-307 Science German Reading Course

It is recommended that students whose field of study is psychology, history and philosophy of science or a subject with a similarly detailed vocabulary, enrol in the year long version of this subject, 183-307. This is to ensure that there is sufficient time available to become acquainted with the wealth of material. When in doubt, discuss the matter with the course coordinator.

Supervised self-instruction. (Either double-semester 183-307 or single semester 183-311, 1 or 2.)

Subject Description

Programmed instruction under individual guidance from the tutor, then translation of scientific texts from students' fields of study. To provide basic skills in reading science German. On completion of the subject students should be able to read and translate into English a passage taken from an authentic science German text with the aid of a dictionary.

Assessment

Continuous assessment of homework assignments and a 3-hour examination.
