Subject Description

An introduction to formal semantics and consideration of a range of topics in semantic theory including the major problems of analysis and description, and the competing approaches which have been taken to these problems in linguistics and related disciplines such as philosophy. It will also involve formal semantic analysis.

Assessment

Regular practical exercises and two written-up class presentations, totalling no more than 5000 words at third-year level and 6000 words at fourth-year level.
