Prerequisites | Students may take this unit without having done first year linguistics (in order to make the subject available to Women's Studies students). A series of special 'catch-up' tutorials for such students is held at the beginning of the semester. |

Subject Description | A study of the differences between women's and men's use of language and how men and women are represented in language, 'sexism in language', the role of language in establishing and regulating gender divisions, and models for linguistic intervention and change. |
Assessment | Two assignments and one essay, totalling to 5000 words. |
