Subject Description

An introduction to the study of meaning. It takes a look at the main linguistic approaches to the study of meaning, semantic analysis and argumentation, problems of accounting for some selected areas of linguistic meaning; and the study of linguistic meaning in context with respect to its meaning in other disciplines.

Assessment

Two written assignments, a tutorial presentation and an essay, altogether totalling 5000 words. Students will also be required to complete regular non-assessable problems.
