Subject Description | This subject examines major sociological approaches to contemporary social and cultural change occurring in national-industrial societies, with reference to an older western model of industrialisation and emerging models of industrialisation in Asia. The subject is organised in terms of a series of case studies examining the changing nature of social problems in areas of health, work, technology and culture, modes of social policy and transformations in contemporary democracy, globalisation and workplace practices and the increasing emergence of identity as the language of social mobilization. |
Assessment | Essays and Assignments of not more than 5,000 words. |
Prescribed Texts | A book of readings will be made available in the first week of semester. |
