Subject Description

An advanced study of problems and issues in contemporary ethics. Students should become able to think critically about the assumptions and commitments inherent in the themes discussed, and acquire a background out of which they can think better and more deeply about the ethical dimensions of human life.

Assessment

One 3-hour end-of-semester examination. An alternative assessment by up to 4000 words of essay-work (either during the semester or as a take-away examination) may be permitted; students unable to complete this essay by the due date will be required to sit the examination. Students will be advised in the first week of the subject if this option is available.
