Prerequisites

One first-year single-semester Philosophy subject. Students who lack this prerequisite, but believe themselves adequately prepared to attempt any second/third year subjects, should consult the Head of Department.

Subject Description

Selected works of Plato, Aristotle and other Greek philosophers on the nature of the good life. Students on completion of the subject should be introduced to the scope, achievement and principal concerns of Ancient Philosophy, and have acquired critical and analytical skills in the reading of selected Greek philosophical texts.

Assessment

One 2-hour end-of-semester examination, an assignment of no more than 3000 words, and regular attendance and participation in tutorials.
