One first-year single-semester Philosophy subject. Students who lack this prerequisite, but believe themselves adequately prepared to attempt any second/third year subjects, should consult the Head of Department.

Subject Description

Students will investigate a range of problems associated with taking a purported divine revelation as a guide to life, for example: morality, secular and sacred; a secular critique of theocentric ethics; theological virtues; establishing the canon; the Bible and ideology; feminist readings and the hermeneutics of suspicion; war in the Old Testament

Assessment

Essays and assignments of no more than 5000 words.

Prescribed Texts

A book of readings will be made available by the Department.
