Prerequisites

One first-year single-semester Philosophy subject. Students who lack this prerequisite, but believe themselves adequately prepared to attempt any second/third year subjects, should consult the Head of Department.

Two 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour tutorial per week

Subject Description

Some major texts and themes in phenomenology and existentialism will be studied providing students with a general knowledge of this tradition. On completion of the subject students should be able to engage in detailed exegesis of philosophical texts and to critically examine philosophical arguments and theses.

Assessment

One 2-hour end-of-semester examination, written assignments totalling no more than 3000 words, and regular attendance and participation in tutorials.
