Prerequisites

One first-year single-semester Philosophy subject. Students who lack this prerequisite, but believe themselves adequately prepared to attempt any second/third year subjects, should consult the Head of Department.

Contact

Two 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour tutorial per week

Subject Description

Contemporary epistemology; in particular, the structure of empirical and a priori knowledge. Students will develop an understanding of the issues raised in the subject, and the ability to argue for relevant conclusions in an alert and well-informed way.

Assessment

One 2-hour end-of-semester examination, an assignment of no more than 3000 words, and regular attendance and participation in tutorials.
