Prerequisites

One first-year single-semester Philosophy subject. Students who lack this prerequisite, but believe themselves adequately prepared to attempt any second/third year subjects, should consult the Head of Department.

Two 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour tutorial per week

Subject Description

Basic concepts and problems of epistemology. Students will develop an understanding of the issues raised in the subject, and the ability to argue for relevant conclusions in an alert and well-informed way.

Assessment

One 2-hour end-of-semester examination, an assignment of no more than 3000 words, and regular attendance and participation in tutorials.
