Subject Description | An introductory subject on Japan for students of Japanese language which provides a socio-cultural basis for communication in the Japanese language and prepares students for further studies on Japan. It examines major aspects of traditional and contemporary Japan and 'discovers' their relationship to Japanese geography, including the city of Tokyo; society, particularly the family, the education system and the workplace, including the role of women; government and politics; elite and popular culture in modern Japan; and the historical background to Japan today. |
Assessment | Continuous assessment equivalent to not more than 4,000 words. Students are required to attend a minimum of 70 percent of all classes in order to be eligible to submit assessed work. |
