Six hours per week: five language classes; one computer class

Subject Description

The course covers the following areas: reading comprehension, translation, composition, and oral/aural practice. One hour per week is spent in the computer lab. 300 Chinese characters will be introduced. Polite forms of speech will be introduced. Classes will be conducted principally in Japanese.

Assessment

Assignments and quizzes totalling not more than 3,500 words (1st/4th year levels) or 2,500 words (2nd/3rd year levels) in written work; one 2-hour written examination; one oral/aural perception test (maximum 30 minutes). Students are required to attend a minimum of 70 percent of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examinations.
