Subject Description

A further study in basic Japanese. Students will learn to communicate in a variety of situations using basic language functions. They will be expected to learn 96 new Chinese characters, and read materials using these characters and the kana syllabaries.

Assessment

Assignments and quizzes totalling not more than 3,500 words (1st year level) or 2,500 words (2nd year level) in written work; one 2-hour written examination; two short oral/aural perception tests (maximum 30 minutes). Students are required to attend a minimum of 70 percent of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examinations.
