Two 1 hr lectures and one 90-minute lecture/seminar per week

Subject Description

This introduction to recent and contemporary philosophy of science incorporates the lectures for 136-202 and extends the material in them in an additional 90-minute lecture seminar. It will include such topics as the justification of scientific method, rationalism vs. relativism and problems of scientific objectivity and truth. It will emphasize the application of these debates to the students' science courses.

Assessment

The best ten of twelve tutorial exercises (40%), a class test, and a 2000 words essay totalling 4000 words.
