Subject Description

The subject provides an introduction to Anthropology, a broad discipline that attempts to understand the full diversity of human affairs in tribal, peasant and industrial societies. This subject will examine the biological and cultural conditions that contribute to human behaviour. Topics will include: biological and social bases of human nature; biological evolution and cultural development; the concepts of culture, society, cultural relativism and enthnocentrism; and the application of anthropological knowledge and techniques to solving practical problems in the modern world.

Assessment

Written work of up to 3000 words and a one hour end of semester test.
