Subject Description

An Interdepartmental subject will studies the origins and development of the related notions of Chivalry and Courtly Love, including the various contextual influences, by focusing on a variety of textual, aural and iconographic material. Seminars will include contributions from medievalists in different disciplines. The subject also looks at the later medieval development of the courtly ideal and modern critical approaches to the subject.

Assessment

Written work amounting to not more than 6000 words.
