Subject Description | This subject examines the ways in which gender is constructed within various fields of representation. This is done in two ways. The first half of the subject looks at the categories of race, sexuality and the body and how these are central to any historical and contemporary constructions of gender. These are considered in the context of feminist debates on notions of representations, subjectivity, the 'other', desire and identity. The second half of the subject considers how these categories operate within a range of mediums such as cinema, popular culture, literature, autobiography and music. |
