Subject Description

This subject examines the nature and development of Soviet Society; and its social, economic and political history. At the end of the semester students should have an appreciation of the nature of Soviet power in Russia; understand the institution of that power and how it has evolved and developed during the course of the twentieth century, the resulting social, economic and cultural consequences; and understand the reason for its ultimate collapse.

Assessment

An 500-word class paper; a 2500-word research essay; at the end of the subject either a 2000-word review essay or a 2-hour examination.
