Subject Description | This subject is an Interdepartmental subject taught by specialists from the departments of History, Classics and Modern Languages. It will examine selected episodes in the history of Cyprus from the Bronze Age to the present, focusing in particular on the Frankish crusading period and the role of Cyprus at the time, the Venetian and Ottoman occupation, British colonisation, the rise of Greek and Turkish nationalism on the island, and the problems of Cyprus since it gained independence in 1960. Students will learn to understand at least three periods of Cypriot history, and gain familiarity with primary and secondary source material in English on the history of Cyprus. |
Assessment | Written work and tutorial participation totalling no more than 5000 words. |
