Subject Description

This subject explores the relationships between gender, culture and sociality, with an emphasis on cross-cultural analyses. Topics include feminist analyses of the body and biology; gender, race, class and ethnicities; beauty, identity and consumer society; the gendering of politics; private, public and the future of the family; mothering and assisted reproduction; masculinities, femininities and sexualities, and human rights/women's rights.

Assessment

Tutorial participation (10%); two essays totalling up to 5000 words (45% each).
