Subject Description

A general introductory history of indigenous/non-indigenous relations in Australia, with particular reference to Victoria, together with an overview of indigenous cultures (including cultural production) and a summary of the principal social issues currently confronting indigenous people in Australia. Students who complete this subject should be able to: demonstrate a general grasp of the history of indigenous/non-indigenous relations in Australia since 1788, with particular reference to Victoria; demonstrate a basic knowledge of the diversity of indigenous cultures in Australia; demonstrate an awareness of the major issues which currently confront indigenous societies in Australia.

Assessment

Written work and/or examinations not exceeding 4000 words.
