Subject Description

Major themes, playwrights and poets of the 19th and 20th centuries. Special attention will be given to one major work by each of Gogol, Chekhov, Mayakovsky and Petrushevskaya. Students should at the end of the subject be able to: understand the development of the two genres in Russian literature; demonstrate a close understanding of one or two selected playwrights and poets.

Assessment

By essay and class paper totalling up to 5000 words (3rd year), 6000 words (4th year).
