Subject Description

A comprehensive study of German language and culture in the 19th and 20th centuries.During the subject students will attempt to develop the capacity to decode and evaluate specialist and technical language use. They will also attempt to develop an independent style in written language use. They will also attempt to develop a detailed understanding of the historical, political and cultural factors that have conditioned the emergence of German as an international language. They will attempt to achieve the level of language competency required for admittance into the fourth-year Honours course (in some instances).

Assessment

A two-hour language test, an oral exam and written work not exceeding 3000 words (Special Studies unit or single-semester subject).
