Subject Description

Major 20th century German literary works in their cultural, historical and political context. No knowledge of German is required. The literary works in question will be discussed for the light they shed on the major social and political events of the twentieth century. They will also be related to the history of ideas that shaped them and which they helped to shape. An important aim of the course will also be to explore issues of interpretation and of plural readings of texts.

Assessment

A 3000-word essay.
