Five hours a week comprising three hours of language study and two hours of Special Studies

Subject Description

Expansion of language skills through language study as well as through special linguistic, textual and/or background studies. (See departmental Course and Subject Guide for details of these studies). During the subject students will acquire a proficiency in basic idiomatic and conversational forms. They will also acquire a proficiency in written structures of moderate complexity and the ability to interpret messages of an intermediate level of complexity occurring in a variety of audio-visual media and in individual and group spoken forms and also a basic knowledge of the principles of analysis in the area of the Special Studies units of their choice. They will achieve the level of language competency required for admittance into Advanced German First Year B (126-106).

Assessment

One two-hour language test, a 15 minute oral examination, written work totalling no more than 1000 words, and one three-hour written exam or equivalent (Special Studies).
