Subject Description | This is an advanced reading course devised to extend student's awareness of the major strands of social and cultural geography. Students will expand their skills of critical reading, argument and writing. They will be introduced to some important current debates. They will be expected to extend their knowledge in a chosen strand of geographical theory and methodology. Students taking this course will learn to: understand the strength and weaknesses of the major concepts and theories in their chosen area of specialisation; read critically and clearly summarise and evaluate the arguments of other authors; understand and apply appropriate research methods to their chosen area of specialisation. Depending on the availability of staff, several streams of advanced study will be offered, of which students will participate in the one of their choice. |
Assessment | Written work equivalent to 6000 words. |
