Subject Description

The course will be concerned principally with the way in which some 'classics' of modern and contemporary Italian literature have been transformed into 'classics' of Italian cinema. In addition to considering the diverse (and different) ways in which we read literature and cinema, the course will also look at the historical background in which the works of literature are set as well as the historical period in which they were turned into films.

Assessment

One thirty-minute tutorial paper (subsequently written up: 2000 words 3rd year; 2500 words 4th year) plus one essay (3000 words 3rd year; 3500 words 4th year).
