Subject Description

The first part of the course consists of a study of a selection of Verga's short stories as well as his novel I Malavoglia in the light of his literary theory and practice; the second part, instead, is a study of Consolo's Sorriso dell'ignoto marinaio with particular reference to its linguistic and structural novelties as well as its interpretation of the Risorgimento.

Assessment

One class paper (2000 words 3rd year, 2500 words 4th year) plus one essay 3000 words (3rd year), 3500 words (4th year).
