Subject Description | The range of topics to be covered are Francophonie, francophone cultures and identities, French culture. On completion of this subject, students should be able to: understand and appreciate the historical facts, the opposing ideologies involved in the making and consolidating of francophone cultures, as well as the complexity of francophone societies; identify and analyse the specificity of francophone cultures as well as the influence of French culture in the works of French-speaking authors from regions previously protected or colonised by France; present an informed and unbiased point of view in discussing and explaining facts and concepts. Assessment | One seminar paper (45 min.), subsequently written up (3000 words); one essay (3000 words). |
