Subject Description

A critical analysis of the role of women in their relation to the production of creative and theoretical texts in French society. Examples include women as writers, social critics, and as objects of representation.

Assessment

One class paper (1500 words) subsequently written up, and class participation (25%), one essay of 2000 words (40%) and a final test of not more than two hours duration (35%).

Prescribed Texts

Selection of texts compiled by the Department including works by: George Sand, Colette, Marguerite Duras, Violette Leduc, and other contemporary writers.
