 116-228 French Reading Course for Beginners

Prerequisites

This subject is only open to beginners. It is particularly suited to postgraduate students with research interests in the following fields: music, philosophy, history, art, literature. (French students are not permitted to enrol in this subject)

Subject Description

Development of reading comprehension skills in French through study of basic French grammar and vocabulary. Exploration of a range of reading strategies in conjunction with the study of a variety of texts, some general, some related to students' specific fields of study. Introduction to translation.

Assessment

Take home assignments, in total not more than 2000 words (40%); written tests not totalling more than 3 hours (60%).
