Subject Description | This subject is an introduction to the study of Romance languages (in particular French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Rumanian and Occitan). Students will gain an understanding and knowledge of a) the position and distribution of Romance languages around the world; b) the sounds and basic grammatical structures of these languages; c) the major differences and mutual influences amongst the Romance languages; d) their development from Latin and aspects of their history. |
Assessment | Three practical assignments (30%), one quiz (20%) and one final test no more than two hours in duration (50%). |
Prescribed Texts | A materials pack prepared by the department will be made available. |
