Subject Description | Intensive practical language training, including group discussion, dramatic reading, formal grammar exercises, creative and factual writing; study of topics relating to French society and high and popular aspects of French culture (art, literature, song, etc.). Students completing the course should have improved their listening and reading comprehension, be capable of extracting maximum information from a given passage; be able to communicate effectively, accurately and fluently in both spoken and written French; have consolidated and developed their knowledge of grammatical structures and vocabulary; have deepened their understanding of French society and culture. Students completing this subject should be able to: describe, narrate and discuss a variety of topics orally and in writing, with increasing accuracy and fluency; understand the gist and some detail of authentic printed and audio-visual materials varying in genre and content as well as in language register; these include literary texts from the Renaissance to the 20th century and excerpts from French television programs featuring a range of speaking styles; demonstrate a broader knowledge and understanding of French society and culture (past and present). |
