Subject Description

A research seminar investigating the two key figures of the pre-1918 avant-garde in terms of recent scholarship. Issues treated include the academic sources of radical art; the dealer-critic system; Fauvism and the Salon; nationalism, anarchism and art; literary thematics; expression and the body; and significations of cubism and collage.

Assessment

Written work which may comprise class papers, essays, visual tests or take-home examinations totalling about 6000 words.
