Subject Description

The emphasis of this subject is on visual material, and devotional and cultic ritual within the broad social framework of fourteenth century Italy. It considers the form and function of the art work in relation to its inherent social and ritual context. Specific works will be examined in order to ascertain the various meanings they conveyed to the original patrons and broader audience.

Assessment

Written work which may comprise class papers, essays, visual tests or take-home examinations totalling about 5000 words for 3rd year and 6000 words for 4th year.
