Subject Description

Focusing on roles and practices conventionally coded as feminine - such as shopping practices, the fashion industry and daytime television - and reading them as sites of both repression and resistance, this subject will familiarise students with some of the major debates in contemporary feminist cultural studies that examine the interdependence of sites of cultural production and practices on consumption. Through reading a variety of cultural practices and formations from feminist perspectives, students will, on successful completion of the subject, demonstrate an understanding in writing and in discussion of contemporary theoretical debates in the field.

Assessment
